Brief Introduction

Saydanar Association is a registered charitable organization with tax exemption based in Switzerland. Saydanar is a Burmese word meaning “goodwill”. With the help of friends in Myanmar we organize aid for people suffering from the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. Saydanar is run on a volunteer basis, so except for a small amount of USD 150.- to 200.- per month for administrative costs which have become necessary since beginning of July 2012, all the funds can be spent completely for the people in need.

Fundraising began shortly after Nargis devastated the Irrawaddy Delta and parts of Yangon Division. The cyclone flooded vast areas of the Delta region, killing approximately 135’000 people and destroying the livelihoods of many more. A total of nearly 2.5 million people have been affected. The cyclone and its tidal wave destroyed paddy fields and farm animals, houses and sources of drinking water.

The main focus of Saydanar has been on providing food aid and constructing tube wells to provide clean drinking water as well as tools and school stationery.
